us
Rafinade is an independent project that designs and directs a gastronomic system for hospitality.
It establishes methods, standards and technical criteria for developing coherent, reproducible products designed for professional use.
What Rafinade is
Rafinade operates as a design and control structure for professional gastronomy.
Its purpose is not to launch isolated products, but to define a common framework from which they can be developed coherently.
The project establishes clear criteria from the outset: how products are conceived, produced, used and kept stable over time.
Rafinade exists to create order, not to multiply proposals without a system.
Where we come from
Rafinade’s origins go back to the early twentieth century in Nagykanizsa, Hungary, where the founder’s family ran a soda factory. As carbonated drinks became part of everyday life, the work was understood not as mass production but as a technical craft: precision in the process, control of the result and respect for the product.
The factory, run by Ignaz Weisz, followed a clear principle: repeat the work well, again and again. This approach—closer to method than narrative—has crossed generations. More than a century later, one original bottle remains as evidence of that way of working.
Although the factory eventually closed, the knowledge was not lost. The relationship with soda, flavour and production processes remained present in the family, evolving towards cooking and gastronomic experimentation. That path led to reconsidering an everyday product—soda—from a contemporary perspective without separating it from its original function.
At this point, craft ceases to be an end in itself and meets biotechnology. The founder’s scientific training brings that historic knowledge into modern processes: controlled fermentation, precise ingredient selection and products that preserve natural flavour with minimal intervention.
Leadership
Rafinade was founded and is led by Aaron (Oliver) Alt.
His career spans more than a decade in chemistry, molecular biology and biotechnology, working in research and development environments where process control, reproducibility and data-based decisions are structural requirements.
Before founding Rafinade, he led scientific teams and technical projects internationally, developing complex processes and optimising systems with demanding precision requirements. That engineering-led approach now shapes the project.
As managing director, Aaron applies this scientific foundation to the Rafinade system: defining criteria, controlling processes and developing structures that allow growth without losing coherence.
Not as an experiment, but as an operating framework designed for professional use.
Applying the system
Today, the Rafinade system takes form in its first operational development: isel.
isel. was conceived within the framework defined by Rafinade and follows the same principles: clarity, control and professional use.
It is not presented as an exception or an isolated experiment.
It is the first application of a system designed to grow and expand over time.
Framework and outlook
Rafinade is developing with a clear ambition: to grow without losing structure.
It is designed for professional environments that need solid systems, not rhetoric. For projects that understand the product as part of something larger, not as an isolated gesture.
Rafinade does not pursue immediate impact. It pursues long-term consistency.
